Free Crochet Pattern: Summer Peach Toddler Dress

Hello everyone. Two weeks back I made a peach and cream ribbed edge beanie with bow strap for my customer's little one. You can find the pattern here. I had also made a matching mary jane booties with matching bow in the front :) Sole is made of cream color yarn and the rest is with peach color. She liked it so much that she wanted a matching dress for the same :) I was so excited to hear this and was even more excited to make the dress.

Shoulder straps [FRONT]

  • Go to the starting chain of your project where you placed the stitch marker. (That is the join you made after chaining 84. You should be having the initial yarn tail). This is the place where you make SS in all the following rows. Keep this portion on the side of the dress.
  • Count 8 stitches from that joint/SC.
  • Start working the pattern from the 9th stitch.

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 SC in the same stitch. 1 SC in 3 sticthes. Ch 1 and turn. [4 SC]
Round 2: 1 SC in every stitch. Ch 1 and turn. [4 SC]
Round 3 to 8: Repeat Round 2.
Round 9: 1 SC in the first stitch. Ch 2. 1 SC in the last sticth. Ch 1 and turn. (button hole created)
Round 10: 1 SC in every stitch. [4 SC]
Fasten off leaving a long tail and weave in the ends nice and secure.

  • Skip 18 stitches.
  • Repeat the above Shoulder Strap pattern (Rounds 1 to 10) once more.
  • These straps will be on the front of the dress.

Skip 16 stitches and start working the shoulder straps on the opposite side. (pattern below)

  • Slip the chain through the 10th DC round [1 DC above and 4 DC below the chain]. Tie a knot or bow.
  • This knot will be made on the back of the dress.

Bow (cream yarn)

  • Ch 5.
  • 4 Tr (treble crochet) in the first chain made. Ch 4 and SS in the first ch.
  • (Working on the opposite side of the chain) Ch 4, 4 Tr in the first chain made. Ch 4. SS in the chain.

FINAL TOUCH:

  • Ch 1. SC in each stitch across (on the sides, straps, front and back portion). SS with the first SC made.
  • Fasten off and weave in the ends.

It is so easy to make and I completed this one in a day. I was so happy with the end result. I hope she likes it and hope her kid does too :)

UPDATE:

For different sizes and measurements, you simply have to add rows to the top part or skirt part respectively. For bigger/smaller chest fit, add/subtract multiple of 4 stitches respectively in the first round and continue the rest of the rounds making changes accordingly.

A lovely image I found on Facebook Group 'Crochet with Us' of Karen's daughter. Thank you Karen.

  3. I would love to show you a picture of my grand daughter in the dress I made using your pattern. It came out perfectly. The instructions were straight forward and it was spot on with the fit for a 2T. I ended up using 3 skeins of 50 g Bernat organic natural cotton (#4 Medium)in pale pink and one skein of cream for the trim. It gave it a nice weight and drape.
